Visiting The Liquor Store Before A Party

If you are hosting a party and plan to serve alcohol, you will, of course, need to visit the liquor store to stock up prior to the party. This can be an exciting endeavor, but it is a bit different than buying liquor just for yourself. Here are some tips to keep in mind when visiting a liquor store before a party.

Decide what mixed drinks you want to make before you go

While some guests may veer away from the menu and make their own thing, it is nice to have at least a couple of key cocktails in mind before you shop. This way, you can be sure to buy all of the supplies at the liquor store. It's easier to buy to suit your recipes than to try to make recipes that only use what you randomly selected to buy. If possible, try to choose cocktails that use some of the same ingredients. This will decrease the number of bottles you need to buy, overall.

Look to the middle shelf

If this is a really special occasion, you may want to buy a top-shelf bottle or two. But for the most part, you want to look to the middle shelves for party drinks. This is where you get the best balance of price and quality. Middle-shelf liquor will suit most palates and is of decently good quality, but it costs significantly less than top shelf, which is good when you're serving a crowd.

Buy a variety

Remember that each of your guests is likely to have different preferences when it comes to liquor. You don't have to buy every type, but buy at least three or four varieties. For example, buying vodka, rum, and whiskey would be a decent assortment. If you want to purchase some flavored liquors, you can, but always buy them in addition to the plain, unflavored varieties so guests have options.

Ask about rebates

Some liquor companies have rebates, especially if you buy several bottles at a time. Ask about these when you check out. The liquor store employee may give you a postcard that you need to fill out and mail in to receive your rebate. This is worth doing when buying so much liquor for a party; rebates add up quickly.

With the tips above, you should end up with a good variety of liquor without spending too much money. For more information, contact a liquor store near you.
